Rhode Island's professional organization for K-16 educators of history and the social sciences. Affiliate of NCSS.
The Rhode Island Council for the Social Studies (RICSS) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit educational organization. It is a network of social studies educators who work at every level of schooling. Through our organization, history and social studies educators communicate with each other through publications and meetings. We broaden our ability to advance social studies and history education by working with related professional associations, government, and private agencies, and promoting positive changes to curriculum and education policy. Our membership dues support and advance all the events we so sincerely wish to see expand: “We the People” competitions, History Day, the Geography Bee, students’ registering to vote, RI Law Day, Rhode Island Model Legislature, Mock Trial, Generation Citizen initiatives, and civics projects, to name a few. Our members enjoy reduced rates to the New England Regional Conference (NERC) and regularly receive news from NCSS and state and local sources. Member organizations can promote events and programs on our calendar notices.
